When the term Supercar was first coined in the 1960s it was used to describe the most prestigious designs and engineering advances applied to the common form of transportation, the automobile. Majority of Supercars are hand-made, tailored and designed to push the limits of speed. Often Supercars are not profitable for manufacturers, some examples are valued at over $10 million dollars, and limited quantities are produced, thus many specimens become part of major collections which never see the light of day.

Supercar Weekend carefully selects and invites Supercar owners from around the world to display their automobiles in a unique, prestigious and exciting atmosphere. "We are so excited to bring the event to the public this year, the event originally started as a boutique event tailored to collectors and connoisseurs, has now become a platform for both collectors and luxury purveyors to showcase new technology, designs and prototypes. The event is beyond automobiles it is a celebration of Art, Speed and Design." Said John Temerian of Supercar Weekend. Some of the featured cars that will drape Flagler Drive include the 251 mph Bugatti Veyron, the all new 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom Drop Head Coupe, the classic 1971 Lamborghini Miura, and the historical 1967 Ford J6 Lemans racing car.

What is a Supercar?

Supercar is a term generally used for a high-end sports car, whose performance is highly superior to that of its contemporaries. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car with a centrally located engine", and stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match," "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarified atmosphere of its own." but the proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts. The use of the term can be dependent on the era; a vehicle that may have been considered a supercar in one decade may not be considered the same in another decade. The term supercar may refer to factory-built, street-legal sports cars. Some supercars include some of the features required for race cars, like the roll cage, while other supercars are in general race cars with only the minimum legal required modifications made (e.g. meeting emission regulations, legal tires, limited exhaust note) to be street legal.
